2015-2016 Project

St. James’ Settlement x HKBN Hot Meal Service

HKBN’s annual experiential management trip in 2015 was a particularly heart-warming event. 35 Talents were determined to go for a bike ride along a 145km rugged mountain route in Kenting, Taiwan, in two days, undertaking to attract food donations and raise fund for People’s Food Bank of St. James’ Settlement. The project gained widespread support from all walks of life and donations flooded in, far beyond the original target of HK$360,000. Over HK$1.1 million was collected to support the St. James’ Settlement x HKBN Hot Meal Service, which provided hot meal service for 100 elders and low-income families for at least 18 months in Food Bank’s Shek Kip Mei and Tai Kok Tsui centres. Over 35,000 hot meals were distributed to the needy to meet their needs.

In addition to donations, our support for the Food Bank also included packing and hand delivering hot meals to the recipients on a regular basis. Moreover, our care for the community was demonstrated through recreational activities organised from time to time, such as making rice dumpling-shaped new year decoration together with the elderly, distributing “lunch bags” recycled from our obsolete HKBN uniforms, and taking people who seldom went outdoors to farms in rural areas to experience the beauty of the nature.
